Philosophy

On the practice

Every patent claim is a contract between the inventor and the public. The work of the prosecutor is to draft that contract so that what the inventor actually invented is what the inventor actually gets to protect. The same precision applies to a trademark application, a licensing agreement, and a litigation pleading.
